Get Protection From Damage During A Storm With Window Film

It’s impossible to prepare for everything Mother Nature can do, but even during a severe storm, window film can be the difference between withstanding the weather and catastrophic damage. These barriers are designed to protect the home’s weakest spot, its glass surfaces. During a hurricane or other powerful inclement weather, flying debris or destructive winds can punch through the glass, letting in torrents of water or high winds. This can result in complete devastation of the inside of the home or business.

Fortunately, security barriers can greatly reduce the chances of this happening. Glass isn’t meant to withstand impacts from debris or swirling wind. Security film made from polyester, though, is designed to resist wind and debris damage. Security or storm window film is made from polyethylene terephthalate, or PET. This material is heat and shock resistant, making the perfect all-around barrier against solar radiation, poor weather and attempted break-ins. Normal solar tints are made with 3 to 4 millimeters of PET, but weather barriers contain between 8 to 10 millimeter of PET, making them much stronger.

The product is installed on the inside surface of the glass, so should the glass fail, the barrier will prevent dangerous glass shards from entering the building. Also, even if the glass is broken, the sheeting will maintain its position, preventing wind, water or debris from entering. These products are common safety options for businesses with storefront displays because they can reinforce and protect the integrity of the glass.

Just as the material will resist impact from debris, storm window film will also absorb shock from burglars attempting to smash through. With enough time, a person may get through, but this will take several minutes and will cause a lot noise in the process. For this reason, it is an excellent layer of deterrence and can save lives.
